The name is a bit misleading. In fact I almost passed it by at first glance. The story is that they started with sandwiches, then added tacos, with a few rice bowls in the mix.
But when Chip and Joanna Gaines, proprietors of Magnolia Market at the Silos and HDTV fame started visiting and said they really liked their Asian-inspired rice bowls, Club Sandwich made the switch.
Owner Youngday Moon says they earned a great following after starting in downtown Waco in 2014, and were honored to be among the first food trucks invited to become a part of Magnolia Market at the Silos when it opened in October of 2015.
And their bowls are delicious! Folks line up to choose between their Rice Bowl and Trashcan Rice Bowl.
The Rice Bowl is one protein served over steamed rice with fresh onions and cilantro. The Trashcan Rice Bowl is two proteins served over steamed rice with shredded sweet pickled carrots, fresh cucumber, onions and cilantro.
Protein options include Beef, Chicken Bulgogi, Lemongrass Pork, Spicy Pork and Organic Tofu. Then choose your sauce: Blackberry Chipotle, Cilantro Lime or Sriracha Ranch. For an extra added kick, add a side of caramelized kimchi.
On any given day you can find Youngday handing out samples to get people familiar with the flavors before they order. When you’re done and if hungry for more, take your plate back to the truck and they’ll refill it FOR FREE with rice, vegetables and sauce. For just $1.75 more you can top it with one of the protein options.
Club Sandwich (they may even change the name one of these days) is definitely the best deal of the day and a must-try Waco eat!
